This is where I’m going to lose a lot of you.

4. SAVE MONEY BY EATING FAST FOOD

I spent approximately $75.00 on food and drink over the course of my two full days in Puerto Rico. How? I ate fast food and I only had one drink during my entire trip. A lot of people are going to say “well what’s the point in traveling then?” and for some people that’s a valid question. It’s just not a high priority for me. Say you were to eat at your hotel for breakfast, another restaurant for lunch and then an even nicer restaurant for dinner and then go to drinks afterwards. Add into that the drinks you consume from the beach-side waitress and you’re up to $150.00+ per day. My flight got in at 11:00pm on Friday and I left on Monday morning at 6:00am. Here’s how I ate:

Saturday | $45.00

For breakfast I woke up late around 10:00am and I walked down the street to Dunkin Donuts and spent $7.00 on a bagel sandwich and a coffee. I then walked to Walgreens and picked up a big bottled water and a granola bar - $4.00. I spent the entire day under an umbrella in a beach chair. I used the beach-side service and had a chicken sandwich and spoiled myself with a margarita around 3:00pm - $25.00. After sunset, I walked to a local chicken fast food place (similar to El Pollo Loco) and ordered a grilled chicken breast and rice & beans combo $9.00.

Sunday | $30.00

I woke up early because I wanted to beat the crowds at El Yunque Rainforest. After picking up my seven hour rental, I stopped at a McDonalds and grabbed breakfast. Uhm… McDonalds in Puerto Rico have this amazing flat bread egg sandwich thing with Fried Yucca on it. AMAZEBALLS - $8.00. Then I found another Walgreens and grabbed a big bottled water, a granola bar and some jack links turkey jerky - $12.00. The drive was about an hour from San Juan to El Yunque so I ate my McDonalds. I spent about four hours in the jungle hiking and ate my granola and turkey jerky. After about another hour drive back to drop my car off, I proceeded immediately back to the beach for a few hours and simply finished my water. Instead of a margarita I ordered a frozen slushy from a guy walking on the beach with a cart - $2.00. Around sunset, I walked to Wendy’s and got a Chicken Sandwich and loaded fries (#yolo) - $8.00.

If food and beverages are super important to you when you travel, you just need to save more money ;-)
